Saxlund to design and install biomass fired furnace for Land Energy
Land Energy's onsite biomass combined heat and power plant rated at 12,5 MW thermal will supply process heat and electricity to the new wood pellet factory. This will supply enough wood pellets for the equivalent of up to 15,000 homes with sufficient energy for all their heating and hot water requirements. The order value for Saxlund's scope of the project is in the 30-40 MSEK range with delivery set to mid 2012, the company said. The Drawbacks of Wood Pellets
The main problem with using wood pellets is not the price, as they work out cheaper than delivered gas and about the same as delivered oil, but because wood fuel pellets are a relatively new source of fuel in the UK & Europe, often delivery charges are higher due to lack of a fully developed delivery network.
However, wood pellets are becoming the modern alternative fuel of choice, with more and more architects recommending wood pellet boilers being installed on new build houses and also retro-fitting into existing setups to help reduce carbon emissions and lower heating costs.
