Like most children, mine never seem satisfied with what they have. There is always thirsty for more, and recently it was a pet.

My husband and I are not particularly fond of animals. We respect them, but we have little desire to own them. But watching my children play with the neighbors' dogs and seeing the look of love in their eyes to the pet that makes me rethink our pets without the policy.

I understand that the fact of the animal in the house is not a small decision. We may not be ready for a dog for now, but maybe other families wonder about the same issue. What should you consider?

If you buy a pet before a child starts talking about wanting one, there’s a good chance he or she will be disinterested in keeping up with care. Go to the local library or book store to research different types of pets. Read up on what’s involved before you decide to buy or adopt a pet. Make sure your children understand exactly what would be expected of them in terms of caring for the animal.

3,000 Miles to Graceland (2001)

This ridiculous 2001 crime caper starring Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner, Christian Slater, David Arquette and Bokeem Woodbine as a crew of Elvis impersonators that try to rob the Riviera casino is a mess. They do successfully knock off the casino, but of course one of them (Woodbine) dies in the process. In conventional crime-caper fashion, the remaining Elvises squabble over money, shoot each other, yell, fight, and act like idiots. If the sight of Elvis impersonators already was an annoying part ofLas Vegas(it was), then seeing all these silly actors trying to be tough guys in such gaudy outfits is enough to inspire frightening, Vietnam-esque flashbacks after watching the film, which in turn could effectively snuff out your desire to go to Vegas at all. Carrying their guns in guitar cases is also a pretty tired cliché, too. If only 3000 Miles to Graceland had John Travolta and Nicolas Cage thrown into the mix, it could perhaps have been transformed from ‘bad’ to ‘b-movie gold’, but as it is it’s merely a throwaway crime flick.
