Bru Fest features burgers, beers and a good cause
Everybody loves burgers and beers, but when you add ice cream and chicken wings to the mix, you've got a fun summertime menu that can't be beat.
The tasty treats await you Saturday at the inaugural Bru Fest at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. Proceeds benefit the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan, hosts of the event.
Your ticket to the event comes with 10 tokens, which will be good for 5-ounce beers, burgers from Bagger Dave's, wings from Buffalo Wild Wings and ice cream from Ferndale's Treat Dreams.
"They were all perfect fits for an event like Bru," says Bill Seklar, president and CEO of Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.
There will be 13 premium craft beers from Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo. Additional tokens for beer will be sold for $1 each. DJ Mike Anthony will spin.

The east side comes alive: Fishbone's in St. Clair Shores is ushering in the season with its sixth annual Fishstock on Friday and Saturday.
The music event was created by Nico Gatzaros in 2004 "as a way to kick off the beginning of summer on the east side of the city as well as a way to showcase local talent from around Detroit," says Mikey Eckstein of promotions company Embarco.
The two-day festival will feature the Hogans, 3 Sheets, the Dave Huff Trust and Driven Soul on Friday and Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas, DJ Mark EP and soulful singer-songwriter Pato Margetic on Saturday.
Musicians will perform under a tent, and the show will go on rain or shine.

Pirate Palooza: Event company On the Rocks Detroit is transforming Luna Kai Waterfront Bar & Grill from a tropical oasis into a party spot filled with wenches, buccaneers and scallywags for the first Pirate Palooza.
"The event idea came from a collaboration that On the Rocks Detroit has with Nikki Black, a.k.a. the Capt. Jack Sparrow," says Kathy Vargo of On the Rocks. "We've been looking forward to doing another event with them, and Luna Kai was the perfect venue choice. The great music we've lined up, plus all of the cool pirates who'll be there and the pig roast and rum punch -- it's going to be like a mini tropical vacation."
On Friday, guests can enjoy barbecue on the patio and live music by classic rockers Danny D and the Bo Luc Band and pirate shanties by Match by Match. Saturday's entertainment lineup includes the Orbitsuns, the Bawdy Boys, Frankie D'Angelo and Match By Match. Wicked Wench and Bawdy Buccaneer contests will be held and grog made with Admiral Nelson rum will be served. A pig roast is on the menu Saturday.
