Trustees Name New Principal to Dana Hills High School
The Capistrano Unified School District board of trustees on Monday evening named Jason Allemann, Ed.D., principal of Dana Hills High School , according to a news release issued by the district.
Allemann, currently principal at Katella High School in Anaheim, will officially begin his new job July 1. He follows Robert Nye, Ed.D. , who has been hired to lead the newly created West View Academy.
“As an educational leader, Jason is committed to doing what is best and right for students,” Superintendent Joseph Farley said. “It is evident that he is approachable, actively listens, and involves multiple stakeholder groups in the development and implementation of a successful high school program. He will be an excellent addition to the district and the high achieving community at Dana Hills High School.”
Allemann has been principal at Katella for four years. Before that, he was a middle school principal, high school vice principal and counselor. He also has private and public sector experience working with young adults identified as severely emotionally disturbed. He also has experience in targeted learning for English learners and special-education students, according to the news release.
He has a bachelor's degree in psychology from San Diego State University, a master's in social work from Cal State Long Beach and a doctorate in educational leadership of urban schools from the University of Southern California. He received his pupil personnel services and administrative credentials from Cal State Long Beach, according to the district.
Dana Hills High School is a former national Blue Ribbon School and a California Distinguished School. It has 2,855 students and a 2010 Base Academic Performance Index of 850.

Ditching school used to be a lot easier. A California based school district wants to stop all hooky playing. Anaheim Union High School District will being giving students who have missed four unexcused days in a school year a GPS tracking device.
The GPS device will be a size of a cellphone and force kids to “check in” a couple of times of a day. That way the school district will know where the students are at any given time. The real kicker here is that both the student and parents have to agree to use the device. No word about what will happen if neither party agrees to use it.
I have heard about these ideas before, but this one is less invasive idea than other proposals. My only issue here is that the kid could leave it at one location, and thus make the device pointless. Either way, the school district could lose on this. What are your thoughts about schools using GPS devices to track students?
