Gay marriage comments alarmist, AME

Sydney's Anglican Archbishop Peter Jensen is under fire for claiming same-sex marriage could lead to the acceptance of polygamy and incest.

Australian Marriage Equality convenor Alex Greenwich says none of the alarmist predictions made by the Archbishop have come to pass in any of the countries that allow same-sex marriages .. including Catholic Spain, Portugal and Argentina.

Dr Jensen says in an article in the church's newspaper Southern Cross that having same-sex unions enshrined in the Marriage Act would be an abuse of the tradition and could pave the way for other changes.

Mr Greenwich says we live in a secular, multi-faith society and Dr Jensen should understand that there are other views on same-sex marriages as among Quakers and in progressive Synagogues.

After nearly four decades in the ministry, I have found something very striking - and rather ironic - about what goes on in churches and synagogues. In those places, we talk about a multitude of subjects related to religion - history, Bible passages,

Book Launch - The Golden Age: Synagogues of Spain in History and ...

In 1492 the Jews were expelled from Spain. Until then, one of the most important fields of Jewish activity in Spain was religious architecture: the building of synagogues.

The architects and builders alike were Jews. Thousand of synagogues existed in Spain at the time. Some were magnificent and large, while others served communities and families.

The architecture of the synagogues in Spain, with the same Jewish heritage as its background, was a vital component in the history of Jewish architecture.

Meir Ben-Dov, an archaeologist and historian, is one of the highest-ranking members of the second generation of Israeli archaeologists. Although he discovered the architecture of Spanish synagogues by chance, in time he came to regard his work in that field as a sacred mission.
