Yahoo's AppSpot Discovery Engine Doesn't Hit on All Cylinders
Yahoo enters the mobile app search space Thursday with AppSpot, now available for iPhone and Android. It has a few neat features, but has a long way to go before it becomes my preferred method of app discovery.
On initial launch AppSpot asks if you’d like to scan your existing iPhone applications so it can factor in what you have (and presumably like) as it offers suggestions. This would be a useful feature if it worked properly, but AppSpot routinely recommended apps I already had. It suggested to my editor the app from Bank of America, where he has no accounts — and presumably would have already if he did. But either way it seems a bit Catch-22 since since a) having the app means it shouldn’t be suggested, and b) there’d be no other way to know if it would be a relevant recommendation.
AppSpot’s homescreen provides suggestions for ‘Entertainment’, ‘Game’, and ‘Music’ apps, bundled under a ‘Today’s Picks for You’ label. Smack-dab in the middle of my screen, AppSpot told me to check out Angry Birds . As with the other sections, you can filter search results by ‘Paid’, ‘Free’, or ‘All’.
Yahoo launched AppSpot in conjunction with a new application search section of its website, Yahoo! App Search . App searches through a fully-featured web browser deliver QR codes along with their results. Then, using AppSpot, you can scan the code on your screen to go straight to the App Store. This feature seems a bit redundant, though — if you have to use your phone anyway, wouldn’t it be faster to do the search straight from AppSpot?
Here’s the good news: AppSpot has plenty of room for improvement. Once its phone scan feature works as intended, AppSpot will be a lot more useful than it is in its current state.

Free Style Photoshop - News

Searching for 'Photography' brings up Cool Wallpapers HD, Adobe PhotoShop Express, MyLite Flashlight, and Instagram. A wallpapers app shouldn't be #1 for 'Photography', I already have PhotoShop Express, and I fail to see what a flashlight app has to do

Creating an Expressive Painting Using a Freestyle Method in Photoshop
In this tutorial you will share my process for what I call Freestyle Expressive Painting in Photoshop. My goal is not too teach any new mind blowing techniques here, but to explore my process for creating a piece of art through a rough idea or loose concept. The process is very open, and involves a bit of trial and error, but what makes it a lot of fun is the experimentation involved.
