On Saturday, April 30th, Las Palomas was once again the site of the now traditional “Las Palomas Rocky Point Triathlon,” organized by Red Rock Co., which included 680 participants registered in 6 different categories. The day included an Olympic triathlon where participants swam 1.5 K in the Sea of Cortez, then biked 24.6 miles and concluded with a 6.2 mile run through the beautiful “Links” golf course at Las Palomas Resort. The Finish Line awaited athletes on the beach in front of Las Palomas, where they were also met with food, snacks, cold beer and live entertainment served up by Deejay GT. Other events included a shorter distance Sprint Triathlon, as well as a 10K and 5K run. It is worth highlighting . the tremendous organizational work of Red Rock Co., principal event promoter, who for a number of consecutive years has held this successful event on Rocky Point’s beaches. Organizers reported there were no serious incidents reported during the recent triathlon, either among competitors or spectators, and noted there were more than 1600 in all at the event including athletes, family, and friends. In the words of Kimo Seymour, co-owner of Red Rock Co., hopefully next year’s numbers for the triathlon will surpass those of this year both for the number of competitors as well as visitors to this beautiful port.
