CCPAL plans annual Pet Parade for Bandera City Park

It’s time to gear up for CCPAL’s 15th annual Pet Parade on Monday, July 4. This year it will be held at the Bandera City Park. Anything you can lead, ride or carry is welcome to take part in the parade. If you don’t have a pet get creative— make a costume and dress up as your ideal pet. You can enter in any of six different categories: 1. Star Spangled Honors (for July 4, most patriotic); 2. Best of the Wild West (western costume); 3. Look-Alike Award (for pets who look like their owners); 4. Most Talented Pet; 5. Most Original Pet; 6. Favorite Story Book Character. Ribbons are awarded in each category and the Judge will pick the Best of Show and the Most Creative entry. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the judging at 10 a.m. The Parade itself starts at 10:30 a.m. This is a wonderful family event so bring your kids and friends to admire the animals and the wonderful costumes. This week’s featured pet is Leroy, a good-looking, friendly young Labrador/Staffordshire bull terrier mix who lives at the shelter with his brother Billy. He has a jet black coat with a small white blaze on his chest and white toes on all four feet. He is a smart young lad and will make some lucky person a great and loyal pet. Leroy likes other dogs and people and has great fun running and playing with his four-legged friends. Nonetheless, he would dearly love a special home of his own. Don’t forget to come on out to the CCPAL Resale Store at 8469 Hwy. 16 S in Pipe Creek for three special events on Saturday, July 18. First, our quarterly Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic will be held in the parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Be sure to get both your cats and dogs vaccinated against rabies. Your dogs will also need to get their annual distemper/parvo booster and cats will need their feline leukemia and feline distemper shots. All vaccinations are administered by an experienced, licensed veterinarian at very reasonable cost. For more information call 830-751-2377.

Second, our June Dog Wash will also be in full swing on July 18 on the Resale Store veranda. Our trusty volunteers will be sudsing up the dogs with gusto from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for just $15 per dog. They will also be micro-chipping pets for a small additional fee. Get your dogs’ dusty coats bright and shiny and provide them with permanent identification at the same time. Micro-chips are a wonderful way to ensure that your pet is returned to you safely should it ever stray from home. Far too many animals end up in shelters or pounds because they have no tags on their collars. Don’t let your pet become one of the lost ones. Get it micro-chipped.
