Tisbury police appeal for witnesses to Spring Street stabbing

Michael Trusty, 45, of Pennywise Path in Edgartown, suffered a stab wound to the chest and remains in critical condition at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, as of this evening, Thursday, June 16.

Ovando Eghill, 32, of Assinnashmayak Road in Aquinnah was arraigned Wednesday morning in Edgartown District Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, in connection with the fight.

An altercation between the two men occurred in the travel lane of Spring Street, at about 5:50 pm on Tuesday, June 14.

"I have reason to believe upwards of four motor vehicles were blocked from going down Spring Street," Tisbury Detective Mark Santon said today. "At one point, the fight moved to the side of the road, and four vehicles went by."

He said some additional witnesses have come forward since the stabbing, but police still do not have a clear, independent picture of what happened. They are appealing urgently for witnesses to contact them.

Detective Santon asks anyone who saw any part of the confrontation to please call Tisbury police, between the hours of 8am and 4pm, at 508-696-4240.
